MEET THE CEO

Kay Olmstead (CEO)

Ph.D., MBA

Kay Olmstead is a co-founder and CEO of Nano PharmaSolutions. Dr. Olmstead has over 31 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry in both API (drug substance) and finished dosage form development.

Prior to founding Nano PharmaSolutions, Dr. Olmstead served numerous small to medium pharmaceutical companies in worldwide as a CMC subject matter expert, especially in poorly soluble drug development. During past 20 years, Dr. Olmstead played a lead role in the development and the FDA approval of five commercial drugs for San Diego based companies, including Santarus, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNTR | acquired by Salix in 2013 for $2.6 billion) and Intercept Pharmaceutical (NASDAQ: ICPT).

Dr. Olmstead has published more than 12 manuscripts and has 11 issued patents and 3 pending patent applications. Dr.Olmstead received Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University followed by a NIH post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University. She currently serves on as the Global Pharma Key Opinion Leader for Korean Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI).

Justin Cho

Chief Business Officer

Justin Cho is the Chief Business Officer and a board member of Nano PharmaSolutions where he drives business strategy, partnerships, and investment initiatives to advance the company’s novel nanomedicine platform. A seasoned entrepreneur and investor, Justin also serves as Founder and CEO of IAPB, LLC, a startup accelerator focused on intellectual property and early-stage company growth, and is an active mentor with MIT Alumni Angel Investors of Northern California.

With a Ph.D. in Organization Studies from the MIT Sloan School of Management and two decades of experience spanning academia, investment, and global board service, Justin brings a deep understanding of business development in science-driven companies. Fluent in English and Korean, he combines international perspective with a passion for translating breakthrough life science innovation into real-world impact.

William Martin

MBA

Bill Martin has 15 years of experience in drug development, working to grow innovative companies by securing financing and strategic partnerships. Prior to joining Nano PharmaSolutions, Mr. Martin co-founded Core Biotherapeutics, a systems biology discovery platform technology company, and Exalys Therapeutics to develop a portfolio of neuroinflammation-targeting small molecules. Prior to founding Exalys, Mr. Martin held a broad role of continuing growth at non-opioid pain drug developer Adynxx, executing strategic and financing transactions to advance the company’s lead program through three phase 2 studies. Mr. Martin started his career in drug development following time with the Boston Consulting Group. He has an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in engineering science and economics from Dartmouth College.

Dr. S. Shrewsbury

Medical Affairs

Dr. Shrewsbury spent his first 13 years in UK clinical practice in primary care and pulmonary medicine, accepting honorary clinical positions at both the Department of Child Health at Southampton University and then the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the National Heart and Lung Institute in London. In 2000, he moved to the US and led Glaxo’s inhaled fluticasone and Upper Respiratory Inflammatory Disorders programs followed by Chiron’s Inhaled Antibiotic Core Team. Steve held the CMO position in several biotech companies including Adamas Pharmaceuticals, AVI BioPharma (now Sarepta Therapeutics), Aquinox Pharmaceuticals, and lastly at Impel Pharmaceuticals where he led drug-device combination product programs delivering drugs to the upper nasal space, in migraine, acute agitation and Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Shrewsbury qualified MB ChB in Medicine from The University of Liverpool, UK.

Sam Koh ( CTO )

Ph.D.

Dr. S. K. Koh received his Ph.D. at Department of Mechanics & Materials Science, Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, U.S.A. He worked as a foreign Professor and Head of Lab. at Ion Beam Engineering Laboratory, Kyoto Univ, Japan, and served as a Principal Researcher at Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). His main R&D area are 1). surface modification of materials, 2). metal and organic thin film growths, and 3). nanoparticles formation on powders by controlling low energy( 10’s eV) ion beam. He has many awards” One of 100 outstanding people in Korea”, and “An Award of New Scientist in Korea”, and the surface treatment technology he developed was selected as one of the best seven major technologies in Asia, Asiaweek, etc. He has served as a chairman or a program chair at various international academic conferences. He has 170 articles and 74 patents.

Joe Gatto

SeedFolio, VC

Mr. Gatto is a founder and managing director of SeedFolio and the lead investor of the equity Seed round for Nano PharmaSolutions. Seedfolio is a venture firm with over 100 early-stage investments primarily in life sciences. Joe received a Master of Science (MS) degree in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University and a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Catholic University of America. He was the founder/CEO an investment research firm StarMine which was sold to Thomson
Reuters in 2007

Timothy Day

Ph.D.

Dr. Timothy Day is Senior Vice President and General Manager of DRS Daylight Solutions, a division of Leonardo DRS. Daylight Solutions is an advanced manufacturer of laser-based photonics engines serving markets that include defense, security, industrial process control, quantum information sciences and medical diagnostics. Dr. Day has over 30 years’ experience in both technical and business management in the photonics industry. He has led engineering, research, product development, manufacturing, and marketing operations. Dr. Day began his career in 1990 as cofounder of New Focus, where he served through the NUFO IPO in 2000 until the sale of the company to Bookham Technologies PLC in 2004. In 2004, Dr. Day cofounded Daylight Solutions where he served as CEO until its merger with Leonardo DRS in 2017.

Dr. Day holds both a BS and an MS in Physics from San Diego State University and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Sarah Dolman

Ph.D.

Sarah is a Partner at Recon Strategy, focused on science and technology innovations and product development for biologic, pharmaceutical, and diagnostic products. Sarah began her career in Process Research at Merck, where she was responsible for clinical supplies and the design of commercial manufacturing routes. Sarah then pivoted to product-strategy, which began at the Boston Consulting Group, where she helped clients to optimize R&D pipelines and improve global supply-chains. Sarah has a PhD in Organic Chemistry from MIT, an MBA from NYU-Stern, and an Hon-BSc from the University of Toronto.

She invests primarily in the seed stage (with a portfolio of 20+ startups). With an early career in accounting, taxation, and M&A advisory, Acacia enjoys leading early-stage due diligence projects. She is also currently the Program Manager for several of Columbia Business School’s Online Executive Education venture capital-focused courses.
